Signs That a Relationship is Over

Signs That a Relationship is Over

Ending a relationship is hard. Irrespective of how bad a person is to you, there’s still some level of difficulty in breakups because there are feelings involved. As sad as it is to admit, not all relationships are meant to last forever. Some people come into your life for a season and when that season ends, they leave. There are ways to tell that your relationship is already heading for the rocks and you should pull the plug and call it quits.

So, if you’ve been indecisive because you don’t know if things are worth saving or not, here’s how to know for sure.

1. You’ve got unmet needs: I talk about communicating with your partner; how to express your needs and desires and trust your partner to meet them. If it’s not happening, then there’s something wrong with your relationship. Please note that there are needs and wants. Material things may be wants, not needs, and those you can do without. However, if you’ve asked for things that are necessary for you to feel safe and secured within your relationship and your partner isn’t making the effort to provide them, your relationship could really be hanging by a thread.

2. Your values don’t align: I know how we like to say opposites attract and cite the yin and yang concept, but that only works to a point. At the core of your being, your values have to align for a relationship to work. If you find yourself fighting over the things that are paramount to you; the things that define who you are, leaving now would be the best option.

3. You’ve broken up plenty of times already: Sometimes we hold on to the memory of a relationship rather than the reality of the relationship itself and that’s what causes people to break up and come back together, only to do it again. If you’ve broken up and gotten together several times, chances are either of you has got some attachment issues or you both do. It’s not love anymore. If it isn’t already toxic, it’ll become toxic soon. You need to let them go for good.

4. The relationship is abusive: Once abuse enters your relationship, the first thing that needs to leave the relationship is you. There’s no excuse that is good enough for physical or emotional abuse. It is dangerous to stay with someone who is causing you harm. Depending on your circumstances, leaving may be hard, but it’s not impossible to walk away. There are many resources and charity organizations that can help you. Please don’t stay further.

5. There’s no more trust: If you no longer trust your partner, it’s in both your interests to end things. This often happens after cheating has occurred. I get that you may want to get past it and move on. And maybe they’re trying to make it up to you somehow, but if your body and soul cannot trust them again, your relationship will not grow past where it is now. Rather than grow resentful, it’s better to start over without that person.
