Sexual Performance Anxiety

Sexual Performance Anxiety:

…What is it & how to overcome

SPA, or Sexual Performance Anxiety, is one of the common sexual problems people encounter and one of the major taboos in our society.

Self-consciousness and concern or worries about how your partner perceives you sexually usually result in SPA.

Another factor might include insecurities about one’s body, worrying about flaws and overall appearance.

SPA might be typical in men, but it can also affect women.

Here are some common causes of SPA:

  • Body Image Insecurities
  • Gender Roles Stigma
  • Relationship Issues
  • Genital Fixation
  • Unrealistic Internet Pornography Expectation

SPA affects everyone differently through different factors.

Here are some of the symptoms SPA could lead to:

  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Premature Ejaculation
  • Inability to Orgasm
  • Lack of Interest in Sex
  • Low Libido

So, with all the given causes and symptoms above, how do we cope with SPA or sexual performance anxiety?
These are some of the things you may do to cope with SPA:

➠ Therapy –

Relationships are only genuinely healthy when both partners can communicate and assess problems jointly. This also entails being open to compromises in which one partner’s opinions do not always prevail.

➠ Avoid the cycle –

This indicates that each partner expresses compassion, sympathy, respect, and admiration.
Love is something that not everyone gets to cherish. Respect your love. Keep making efforts to make your partner smile.

➠ Mindfulness

There’s nothing wrong with admiring celebrities or watching porn, but if we start comparing to the “idealized” versions of people’s bodies and genitals, it can lead to sexual performance anxiety. Be mindful of what we expose our minds to.

➠ Lifestyle

In some cases, recurrent sexual dysfunction like frequent ED (or worsening ED symptoms) can be an early warning sign of more severe health problems. It’s best to get checked by your healthcare provider.

Other things that will play a big part in combatting SPA are:

  • Quitting Smoking
  • Regular Exercise
  • Improving Diet
  • Reducing Alcohol Intake
  • Reducing Distractions

STOP the Stigma About Sexual Performance Anxiety
